Introduction

Since 2026, this IMPACT Beyond Flagship program has provided responsive support to coffee farming communities in Amazonas, Peru, in partnership with the Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Laguna de Los Cóndores.  Purchases of select lots from Laguna de los Cóndores activate a traceable cycle of investment. Purchasing commitments are followed by a community-led assessment to identify and prioritize local needs. Projects are then implemented transparently by the participating communities under the oversight of the Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Laguna de los Cóndores Board of Directors, with monitoring by Sucafina.

The Rationale

Communities across Amazonas face three linked challenges: deteriorated classrooms, limited access to drinking water and poor health services; families leaving in search of opportunity elsewhere; and a lack of government investment that leaves small communities behind. 925 producer families across 5 districts in Amazonas are part of this program.

Project Components

Projects are prioritized by urgency and number of participating families, across three areas. Project focus and community action may vary year-to-year but will always fall within one of more of the below:

  • Education:  construction and repair of classrooms, equipment and school materials, support for rural teachers, among others.
  • Drinking water: collection systems and pipeline installation, network maintenance and filters and purification.
  • Health: rural medical clinics, community first aid kits and prevention and training campaigns.

Outcomes/Impact

CLASSROOM INFRASTRUCTURE: Construction of new, safe classrooms to replace collapsed or condemned facilities.

STUDENT AND COMMUNITY CONTINUITY: Continuous education guaranteed for students previously at risk. Families given a reason to stay in their community rather than migrate for opportunity elsewhere.

TRANSPARENCY AND MONITORING

  • Financial reports detailing the source and destination of funds for each project.
  • Impact measurement tracking number of participating families, students served and services/outcomes reported.
  • Quarterly reports with progress, achievements and testimonials.

Contribution options

In addition to built-in contributions made through coffee purchases, roasters and interested partners can make additional contributions to this program. Contributions can be made as a premium in cts/lb or as an outright donation.

About Beyond Flagship projects

Beyond Flagship Projects are initiatives linked to IMPACT verified farmer groups within Sucafina's direct supply chains. These projects are designed to offer partners a flexible way to support IMPACT goals, create measurable impact and drive meaningful change at contribution levels below the typical minimum threshold for full project sponsorship.

Investments are made through a premium and do not need to be tied directly to coffee produced by the project's participating farmers. Instead, support is Origin specific. For example, purchasing Beyond Flagship contributing coffees from Peru enables investment in Peru-based IMPACT Beyond projects. This approach increases flexibility, expands the potential for impact at scale and supports more consistent data collection and reporting across supply chains.
