Meet Tran

This time with People of Sucafina, we’re speaking with Tran Dao, a risk and insurance specialist who’s located in Geneva, Switzerland. Tran’s work is focused on getting your coffee safely and quickly to you, as well as on working on innovations that will improve logistics in the future.

How did you get involved in coffee?

I was a junior at university when my classmate sent me a Sucafina job posting for a Logistics Trainee position. I had not applied for any companies before and just decided to try my luck. Fortunately, my wish was granted and my journey in Sucafina began.

In Vietnam, a cup of coffee in every morning is a must but I did not know what is in the value behind that cup. Being in the logistics department at Sucafina has given me the knowledge of coffee and enabled me to see how much effort it takes to bring coffee from tree to our daily cup. Since then, I feel immense appreciation whenever I see a cup of coffee.

What are your main jobs/tasks?

As Insurance Team Leader and Risk Support Officer, I provide insurance services (mainly cargo insurance and political risk insurance) to the Sucafina group, including claim handling, inventory management, procedure or guideline enhancement and policy renewal. I also work as risk support for APAC region. Besides that, I also work on digital transformation projects in the logistics department. These projects help us to maximize our operational efficiency.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the full support and dedication from my leaders, mentors and colleagues. There are many chances for me to learn and challenge myself every day. Whenever I have doubts and concerns, I always have someone to lean on and help me resolve them.

Moreover, one of my favorite quotes is “The sky is the limit”. I heard this from one of my colleagues and it is a great inspiration for me to never stop taking on new challenges.

What’s something interesting about you?

I have a funny story from my early years at Sucafina Vietnam. We always have a year-end party where we always have lucky draw for nice prizes, and I won 3 years in a row. So, if I have one word to describe my feeling at Sucafina, it would be “lucky”. I am lucky to improve every day, to have good relationships and to get great prizes.

My hobby is jigsaw puzzles. My love for puzzles started when I was in East Africa handling exports that were going around the world. There were some countries mentioned that I have never heard of, and I also wondered what the best route would be to bring a container from country A to country B. In order to better understand this, I bought a world map jigsaw puzzle. To me, it is not just a game but a kind of meditation that teaches me to be patient and calm. Trust me, the moment you put the final piece will give you the best feeling of the day!
