Introduction to Sucafina Indonesia
Sucafina Indonesia Coffee was established in 2019 as a representative branch for Sucafina and has since steadily expanded our team, partnerships and facilities in Indonesia. Our offices and quality labs are staffed by an experienced team who manage our activities across this vast and diverse island nation.
Our activities include cultivating supply chains to source and process cherry or gabah (wet parchment) to specialty, premium and commercial grades. Sucafina Indonesia also imports green coffee from other origins to supply to local roasteries.
Our Operations in Indonesia
Our head office and first dry mill is in Bandung, West Java. This is our hub for milling and exporting coffees from Java, Sulawesi, and Flores, in addition to warehousing the imported coffee selection. In Sumatra, we partner with 3 mills in Medan, and in 2025 will open our own dry/wet mill combo in Aceh to source and process directly from farmers. In Java, Sulawesi and Flores, we have established processing facilities through local partnerships. Our field team is actively involved in the procurement and production of traceable coffees.
We have also been developing relationships with hundreds of local roasteries in Indonesia, from micro to large scale.
Indonesian Specialty Offerings
Sadayana West Java
Established in 2022, Sadayana is connecting farmers in West Java with new resources while diversifying the processing methods available from Indonesia. Our collaboration with and support of Sadayana has been crucial in these efforts.
"Sadayana" means "working together" in Sundanese. The Sunda are one of the three largest ethnic groups on the island of Java, and the region where the Sadayana washing station is located is predominantly Sundanese.
Sucafina financed the construction of Sadayana washing station in March 2022. Today, the station is operated by a local partner and serves approximately 200 farmers who deliver coffee to be processed. Farmers contributing cherry to the station have access to Sucafina services including agronomic support and affordable seedlings.
Laga Lizu Bajawa
Sucafina recently collaborated with the local community to establish a new processing facility for the 2024 harvest. Beyond traditional wet hulling, the facility now produces anaerobic fermented fully washed, honey and natural process coffees, expanding the range of offerings from this unique region.
“Laga Lizu,” meaning “above the clouds” in the Bajawa language, comes from one of Indonesia’s most celebrated coffee-growing regions. Located in the Ngada district on the island of Flores, Bajawa is known for its matrilineal society, where land is inherited through the female line. As a result, many women own and manage their family coffee farms.
Sesongot Gayo & Ribang Gayo
Since 2019, Sucafina has fosterded strategic partnerships to deliver the best specialty coffee Gayo has to offer.
Sesongot Gayo
'Sesongot' is the name for a beautiful caterpillar native to Gayo that is commonly found hanging about in the coffee trees. Our partner, Aulia Kahfi, Aulia chose to name his experimentally and special processed coffees after the creature due to its unique and very special appearance. With his guidance, Sesongot excels in producing experimental and anaerobically fermented lots from Kute Panang and Gegarang districts.
Ribang Gayo
Asman Arianto founded Ribang Gayo Musara Cooperative to offer competitive prices that can help his 350+ member farmers reinvest in their farms and their families. Today, Ribang Gayo is an award-winning producer in Pantan Musara, delivering their best lots to Sucafina for distribution globally. Sucafina has donated 3,000 shade trees to Ribang Gayo to offset carbon emissions.
Barokah Kerinci
Our partnership with Koperasi Koerintji Barokah Bersama , led by Triyono, is one of our longest partnerships in Indonesia. We’ve worked with the group since 2017 to deliver some of the most unique specialty coffees in Indonesia.
Not only focused on the amazing quality they produce, we have also collaborated with the group on a number of sustainability initiatives including the distribution of avocado seedlings and construction of composting facilities.

Investing In Farmers
Investing in Farmers is a key pillar of our Sustainability Strategy and part of our commitment to coffee development and the welfare of Indonesian coffee farmers.
We invest in farmers as the key stakeholders who make our activities possible. As such, our services to farmers include the following:
- Access to quality planting materials
- Provision of improved coffee varieties to coffee communities and farmers - New varieties facilitate climate change resilience and are highly resistant to pests and diseases, including nematodes community/farmers.
- Seedling distribution to farmers who are involved in our sustainability programs
- Establishment of community nurseries in our supply chain.
Moreover, in order to address the challenges in the field such as low yields and genetic and nematode issues, in 2021 we introduced the improved Komasti variety in Java The trial project helps farmers improve yields and quality.
Protecting Our Planet
Another Key Pillar of our Sustainability Strategy is Protecting our Planet.
To this commitment, we also have several programs such as composting (waste valorization) to reduced dependency on chemical fertilizers. We have also facilitated the planting of supplementary cash and subsistence crops in an agroforestry system (e.g. avocado seedlings) that both improve farmer livelihoods while improving biodiversity and shade on coffee farms.
